Who possesses the lyrical talent worthy of being recognized as Kenya’s greatest rapper of all time (G.O.A.T)?
Fast-rising rappers TJoe and Born Realer contend that the competition for this esteemed title lies between Skillo Mkadinali and Nyashinski.
During a freestyle session with Manucho The Baller on the ‘Baze47’ show, they presented compelling arguments regarding the superiority of either Skillo or Nyashinski.
Born Realer asserted that Skillo is among the most underrated rappers in Kenya.
He emphasized that Skillo’s poetic intricacy is pushing the limits of creative lyricism.
“Skillo Mkadinali ndiye yule nafeel anafaa kuwa G.O.A.T.. Yule msee yuko na bars mzito. Yuko lyrical vile mimi nafeel na vile mimi hupenda,” said Born Realer.
Conversely, TJoe declared Nyashinski the undisputed G.O.A.T., praising the rapper’s consistent lyrical prowess and authoritative storytelling.
He acknowledged Khaligraph Jones’ contributions to hip-hop but maintained that Nyashinski’s lyrical pen has burnt brightest.
“Nyashinski ni mnoma msee. Ukiskiza bars zake. Kuna wenye hu-idolize Khaligraph, ambaye pia ni mnoma na namtambua , but ukiskiza bars za Nyashinski anazileta venye zinafaa. Umeskiza “To Whom It May Concern?”, wasee wamependezwa sana na ngoma ya “Busy” lakini hawajaskiza “Bluff”. “Bluff” ni kali,” said TJoe.
Emerging from the Nairobi Freestyle Movement (NFM) rap scene, both expressed a desire to leave a lasting impact on the culture.
Born Realer conveyed his relentless drive to refine his wordplay amidst intense competition.
“I strive to excel because everyone else is pushing hard. Saa hii kila msee aki-create something ana-perfect. When I write, I aim to produce something impressive, trendy, and timely; something that captures attention while remaining true to our culture and nation. The talent on the streets is at an extraordinary level,” he stated.
TJoe, on the other hand, expressed his eagerness to explore all avenues of creativity, recognizing its potential to influence the future.
“Ukiandika wimbo, kuwa na ambition. Unaandika huu wimbo kwa nini? Kuna mtu anaandika ajibambe so ni raha, kuna mwenye anaandika ju ni kazi, kuna wenye wametokea, na ku-enjoy making good music while hoping for a better tommorrow. Kitu kinanifanya niandike hizi ngoma na punchline zangu ni ati nina goal ya mahali naenda; niko na ambtion; ambition ni kila kitu,” he said.
