Vincent Mureithi Kirimi Alias Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai Alias Tali were arraigned today, 19th January 2024 before the High Court in Kiambu in connection with the murder of Daniel Muthiani Bernard Alias Sniper.
The prosecution team, through ADPP, Ms Wangui Gichuhi; Ag. ADPP, Ms. Evelyn Onunga; PPC, Mr Benjamin Kelwon; PC, Mr. Augustine Gacharia and PC, Ms. Brenda Parklea, however, made an application before Kiambu High Court Deputy Registrar, Hon. Jackline Karani, seeking to defer the plea for 7 days pending a mental assessment of the suspects.
In her ruling, the Deputy Registrar allowed the prosecution application and directed that each suspect be subjected to a psychiatrist assessment and the report tabled in court before a plea is taken. The suspects will be detained at Muthaiga Police Station until 29th January 2024 when they are expected to take a plea.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had given the green light for the two suspects to be charged with murder in the case of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
In a statement, the DPP said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had concluded its probe and presented an inquiry file.
“Upon thorough analysis of the facts, the DPP is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain the charge of murder against Vincent Muriithi alias Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali,” read part of their statement.
To this effect, the two will be arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts “for the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code”.
