Social media literacy courses to promote credibility of content in Kenya

A program has been launched to offer social media literacy courses to Kenyans with a view to promote credibility of content shared on social media platforms.

The Courses being offered by European Business Institute of Luxembourg shall be targeting high schools in Kenya to tackle the credibility of social media sources, and identify misinformation.

Dr. James Mulli the President of EBI said the courses which will be offered in form of scholarships also seeks to help youth understand the impact of social media on mental health, and communication and foster ethical and responsible online behavior.

He said they have partnered with Amnesty International and Uamuzi Foundation to offer social media literacy scholarships together with Artificial Intelligence and business-related courses to Kenyans.

Mulli said EBI will be paying for the first 100 students and plan to enroll more if they get funding.  The first 100 students will be required to pay a fee of Ksh100 for the course.

“This interactive 4-hour seminar in 2 sessions, equips students with the tools to be informed, responsible, and ethical users of social media in today’s digital landscape,” he said.

The EBI president said the course will be conducted online and shall provide students with critical skills to navigate social media safely, responsibly, and effectively.

He said it covers media bias, misinformation, privacy concerns, online etiquette, and the impact of social media on mental health and society.

At the end of this course, students should be able to analyse the credibility of social media sources and identify misinformation, understand the impact of social media on mental health and communication and apply strategies for maintaining digital privacy and online security.

Moreover, he said students will also engage in ethical and responsible online behaviours and critically assess how algorithms shape information exposure.

The institute also grants scholarships for other courses  for students to enroll in tuition-free on-demand online EBU Certificate short courses.

“Whether you are looking to advance in business, AI, technology, project management, compliance, education, or improve your English, EBU has the right course for you,” said the EBI president.

He said the courses during the current intake are available at their official portal. 

They include Certificate In Business Administration/CPA Courses, Hospitality Courses,  AI For Leaders Courses, Technology and AI Courses , Project Management Courses,- Compliance Courses, English Courses, and Cyber Security Courses.
