In a passionate response to the ongoing public feud surrounding former journalist Kimani Mbugua, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has weighed in, condemning the actions of Kimani’s father and media personality Oga Obinna.
Sonko expressed his disapproval of the decision to publicize private conversations with Kimani, who is still recovering from mental health struggles.
Speaking on the matter, Sonko said,
“It is wrong for a father to publicly show conversations with his sick son who is still recovering from mental problems. Even us, we have children who take us through difficult situations, but we still give them second chances.”
The controversy arose after Kimani’s father appeared on Oga Obinna’s show, revealing text messages between him and his son. He claimed he had not seen Kimani since he left rehab and used the platform to voice his frustrations. However, Sonko strongly believes such actions could hinder Kimani’s progress toward full recovery.
Sonko further emphasized the importance of patience and understanding, saying,
“Kimani Mbugua has not recovered fully, and he needs to be carefully handled. I am willing to take him back to rehab to complete his treatment and medication. We have all done a good job so far, and he is almost recovering. Let us take it slow and offer him another opportunity.”
Kimani Mbugua’s struggles with mental health have been in the public eye for some time, and his journey to recovery has drawn support from many Kenyans. Sonko’s statement underscores the need for empathy and caution when dealing with individuals in vulnerable situations.
As the conversation surrounding Kimani’s well-being continues, Sonko’s intervention serves as a reminder that recovery is a delicate process that requires collective care and discretion.
