Fresh court documents are shedding more light on the separation of Hollywood couple Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas.
The Game of Thrones star took legal action in a New York court, filing a petition on Thursday to demand the
“Immediate return” of their two daughters to the United Kingdom.
Notably, the documents state that the couple established England as their permanent residence back in April of this year.
The timeline of their relationship reveals crucial details about the marriage’s breakdown.
Sophie Turner revealed that she discovered Jonas had filed for divorce through the media.
The documents state,
“The breakdown of the parties’ marriage happened very suddenly,” citing an argument on August 15, 2023. Just a few days later, on or about September 1, 2023, Jonas filed for divorce in Florida.
Shockingly, Turner only learned of this through media reports around September 5, 2023.
In response to Jonas’ divorce filing, the former couple issued a joint statement on their Instagram accounts, announcing their separation and appealing for privacy.
They expressed, “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.”
They emphasized that it was a united decision and urged everyone to respect their request for privacy, especially for the sake of their children.
The newly revealed court documents also disclose that the couple recently met to discuss their separation.
However, it appears that custody arrangements have become a major point of contention.
The documents state, “On or about September 17, 2023, the parties met to discuss their separation.” Turner reiterated their previously agreed-upon plan for the children to return to England that week.
Still, Jonas, who currently possesses the children’s passports, refuses to return them to Turner and refused to allow the children to go to England with her.
Turner and Jonas began their journey together in 2016, culminating in a surprise Las Vegas wedding in May 2019, followed by a larger, “more traditional” celebration in France two months later.
