The state parastatal responsible for managing the country’s stadiums, Sports Kenya, has denied claims that they have allowed AFC Leopards access to Nyayo Stadium after settling their fine of 505,450 Ksh.
AFC Leopard incurred the fine following the clash between their fans and Gor Mahia fans during the Mashemeji Derby played on April 21st at Nyayo Stadium.
On the other hand, Gor Mahia was fined Ksh. 126,500. The total amount will be used to repair and replace some of Nyayo Stadium’s furniture destroyed during the clash.
Some destroyed items include a polycarbonate canopy at the player’s tunnel, four spring-loaded corner flags, four pitch-side desks, Sports Kenya telescopic and pitch-side banners and eighteen portable plastic chairs.
Several online reports indicated that AFC Leopards, through the support of Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, had stepped in to pay the amount, clearing them to use the facility henceforth.
Indications also pointed towards Ingwe hosting Bandari at the said facility on Sunday afternoon.
Sources close to the club also indicate that an Executive Committee meeting was held on Tuesday to help come up with a way of either clearing the full amount or hatching a payment plan with Sports Kenya that would have allowed them to use Nyayo Stadium till the end of the season.
