Police in Kampala are investigating an incident where a youth leader was allegedly stabbed after intervening in a fight among football fans.

The deceased, Allan Kakumba Allan, a youth councillor of Masajja A in Ssabagabo-Makindye was reportedly saving his brother from a fight with a soccer fan after the January 27 Arsenal versus Manchester City FA Cup encounter.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the deceased's brother Titus Kyendo was involved in a fight with two of his neighbours following Arsenal's 1-0 loss to Man City.

The victim got trapped in the fight and ended up being stabbed by one of the suspects. He was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital but succumbed shortly after admission.

Police have since taken in the suspects and investigations into the incident have begun.

"Two suspects, Eddie Ssemakula and David Abigaba are now in police custody as investigations continue. We have also recovered the alleged murder weapon (a knife) that has also been exhibited," the police boss added.

Arsenal is top of the Premier League table with 50 points, followed closely by Manchester City with 45 points. The two are expected to face each other on February 15.
