Southampton also got the unenviable record of being the first team in Premier League history to lose 9-0 twice. Leicester City beat them at home last season by the same scoreline, although on all this matches, they were reduced to 10 men early in the game.

United now boast the record of having scored the most goals this season. Their tally of 46 is higher than any other club in the league.

This huge win puts them joint-first on the league table with their local rivals Manchester City on 44 points. Fans and players of the club will be sure to remember this day for a very long time.
