Star-studded list of athletes to highlight Athletics Kenya Olympics trials

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, along with Mary Moraa and Beatrice Chebet, are among 250 athletes invited by Athletics Kenya to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics trials. The event will be held at Nyayo Stadium on June 14th and 15th.

Athletics Kenya (AK) has also invited athletes from Uganda, South Sudan, and Botswana for the two-day event to select Team Kenya for the Paris Games, scheduled for July 27 to August 11, 2024.

Mark Otieno, Tyson Juma, and Dan Kiviasi are set to mount stiff competition against Omanyala in the 100m race.

Omanyala, on the other hand, seeks to display a redeeming performance after his recent disappointing outings.

The 27-year-old posted a fifth-place finish at the Kip Keino Classic, second-place finishes at the Atlanta City Games and Prefontaine Classic, and a third-place finish at the Racers Grand Prix.

The 800m champion, Mary Moraa, will lead the pack in the 800m race, joined by Nelly Chepchirchir, Sarah Moraa, Naomi Korir, and Vivian Kiprotich. Moraa is also set to take part in the 400m race.

World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech will lead the women’s 3000m steeplechase, while Beatrice Chebet will challenge Faith Kipyegon, who will also take part in the 1500m, alongside Lilian Kasait and Margaret Chelimo in the women’s 5000m.

In the men’s categories, Amos Serem will headline the men’s steeplechase, joined by his younger brother Edmund Serem, Simon Koech, and Abraham Kibiwott.

The 800m will feature rising star Emmanuel Wanyonyi against Aaron Kemei, Wycliffe Kinyamal, Alex Ngeno, Emmanuel Korir, and Ferguson Rotich.

The men’s 1500m will attract Reynold Cheruiyot, Timothy Cheruiyot, Abel Kipsang, and Brian Komen.

The Paris Olympics Games will kick off on Friday, July 26, 2024, and run until Sunday, August 11, 2024. Kenya has already qualified in fencing, rugby 7s, and the marathon.
