Still in office? Video of Waruguru saying she reports to work in Foreign Affairs Ministry ignites debate

A video shared by former Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru speaking about her role as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) has ignited mixed reactions.

In the video making rounds on social media, Waruguru was addressing a church audience at Rhema Feast 2023. The chief guest was renowned Nigerian preacher Apostle Joshua Selman.

“God has also called us as politicians to pray right in those government offices where I pray every morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I tell Jehovah that you will never allow Al Shabaab to enter the territory of Kenya,” she was quoted as saying.

Cate Waruguru Under Fire

Social media users poked holes into the video, claiming it was an admission from Waruguru that CASs were in office against a court order.

“Cate Waruguru has said she still goes to work everyday as Foreign Affairs CAS whether the Constitution likes it or not, because she serves a living God who is above law. Praise God, Church,” one tweep identifed as Gabriel Oguda said.

Another social media user, Kachwanya, stated, “If you have any doubt about CAS being in the office and earning salaries despite the court rulings to bar them here is your confirmation through pastor Cate Waruguru.”

Others made fun of her, asking when she became a preacher.

“Pastor/Pastoress Hon.Cate Waruguru,” former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko teased.

50 CAS Positions Revoked

Waruguru was appointed as the CAS in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March this year.

However, the 50 CAS positions were declared null and void by High Court.

A three-judge bench comprised of Justices Hedwing Ong`undi (left), Kanyi Kimondo, and Visra Aleem Alnashir faulted President William Ruto for creating 27 extra CAS positions illegally.
