Embu County Assembly Speaker Josiah Thiriku has called for cessation of the current political aggression, terming it unhealthy for the country’s development agenda.
Thiriku, while calling for tolerance of divergent political views, observed that there was a wave of heated exchanges of both negative and positive political energy, which was threatening to spiral out of hand as leaders in different factions clashed.
Thiriku, who is also the Chairman of the Speakers’ Caucus at the County Assemblies Forum (CAF), said there was need for leaders to shelf high-octane political salvos and instead team up both at the national and county level to effectively deliver on development pledges made to the electorate.

He reminded elected leaders that their constituents were not interested in political infighting and rhetorical bickering, adding that the only mandate vested on them was to ensure implementation of development projects as outlined in their campaign manifestos.
The Speaker asserted that leaders ought to be responsive to the concerns of the people, at the same time stating that it was pointless to chest thump in political gatherings while the country’s populace complained of a high cost of living occasioned by a failing economy.
Thiriku warned that though the Kenyan citizenry was grappling with an unprecedented economic downturn at the moment, the ultimate loser would be the elected leaders whom he cautioned might be punished by the electorate during the next general election.
