Super Metro Sacco on Wednesday, March 12 suspended crew members of one of its vehicles after a tout allegedly threw a man out of a moving bus after a disagreement over fare.
In a statement, Super Metro expressed its deepest regret, sympathising with the family and friends of the man who reportedly died on the spot after being thrown from the moving bus.
“We understand that the public is angry, and rightfully so. No one should loose their life in such a senseless manner. At Supermetro, we hold the sanctity of human life as a core value guiding our actions and decisions,” the company said.
Super Metro assured Kenyans that they take safety of their customers very seriously, pledging to fully cooperate with authorities in their investigations to ensure justice is served.
“We do not condone reckless behaviour… We will fully cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served. Moving forward, we are reinforcing strict safety protocols & training to prevent such tragedies.”
According to reports, the incident occurred in Kahawa Wendani area, when the tout disagreed with the male passenger over the amount of fare to be paid. While the tout insisted that the fare was KSh80 at the time, the passenger said that he only had KSh50 on him.
The back and forth between the two is said to have angered the tout, who reportedly opened the door of the moving vehicle and threw the man out. He died on the spot, with an autopsy indicating that he broke all his ribs, hands and legs as a result.
