Suspect behind stabbing to death of GSU officer arrested

Police in Kisumu County have arrested a suspect believed to be behind the fatal stabbing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Manyatta slums.

Ronald Liwind was arrested by a multi-agency team of investigators at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County, where he had fled to.

The officers recovered assorted crude weapons and jungle uniforms from the house of the suspect, who is currently being held at Kondele Police Station.

Police are also in hot pursuit of Liwind’s suspected accomplice. David Nyeuse is currently on the run.

Police believe Liwind stabbed to death Constable Calvince Ouma Omondi, 24, during a scuffle that ensued under unclear circumstances.

It is reported that Omondi was in a vehicle escorting a lady friend to her house within Manyatta when one of his friends in their company asked him to stop to answer a call of nature.

But when the said friend was answering to the call of nature, it is reported that unknown people attacked him, with the GSU officer running to defend him.

In the ensuing melee, the GSU officer was stabbed in the chest, dying on the spot. His friend sustained serious stab wounds and was admitted to hospital in stable condition.

The GSU officer was attached to the Turkwel GSU camp in Turkana County, and had returned home for his leave.
