Prime suspect in Kware dumpsite murders, Collins Jumaisi has escaped from Gigiri Police station.
Jumaisi was among 13 suspects who escaped from the police station on Tuesday August 20, 2024 in the morning.
Police noticed the absence of the 13 suspects Tuesday morning, the time for serving them breakfast.
In a statement, police explained that the suspects escaped after cutting a wire mesh at the cells before jumping over the perimeter wall.
The incident was confirmed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin, who explained that a manhunt had been launched to re-arrest them.
“It is unfortunate this has happened but we are pursuing the matter for action,” he said.
Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja was among other senior police officers who arrived at Gigiri police station on Tuesday after the 13 suspects escaped from the station.
At the same time, DCI boss Mohamed Amin also visited the Gigiri police station with a team of other DCI officers as they launched investigations into the incident.
Jumaisi was arrested on July 15, 2024 over the horrific murders of at least 42 women including his own wife in Embakasi South, Nairobi.
He is accused of systematically killing and dismembering the victims before dumping their bodies at a dumpsite in Kware.
