Police officers from Githurai Kimbo police station are investigating an incident in which a suspect of robbery collapsed and died in police cells on Saturday evening.
According to the police report, Samuel Njuguna was awaiting a court appearance when he collapsed and died on the spot.
Police on duty that evening said that they received a complaint from inmates in custody, indicating that one of them had collapsed while in the cell.
However, they rushed him to Ruiru Level Four Hospital, where he died upon arrival.
Police moved the deceased’s body to the City Mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
Officials from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority joined the police to investigate the cause of the death.
Meanwhile, the police are still investigating an incident in which a police officer attached to Ruai Police Station collapsed and died at a bus stop in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
The police report states that Constable Joshua Apella Odwar was waiting to board a bus when he collapsed and died on January 12 at about 3 pm.
Before his death, Constable Apella had been referred to Kenyatta Hospital, and he was traveling to Kisumu after being discharged from a private hospital in Utawala the previous day after being involved in a hit-and-run accident.
The police moved his body to Chiromo Morgue, awaiting an autopsy.
