Police in Kisii South have arrested the prime suspect who was among those who escaped a dragnet in the wee hours of July 10 2024, abandoning a vehicle ferrying bhang.
On the fateful day, police officers on routine patrol along the Kisii-Migori highway spotted a speeding Nissan X-Trail heading towards Kisii town.
When they signalled to stop, the vehicle initially slowed down before speeding off, running over spikes at the roadblock.
“The officers pursued the suspect’s vehicle, which eventually skidded off the road and landed in a ditch,” a police report says. “Three occupants fled the scene, vanished into a nearby thicket leaving behind the vehicle.:
When the officers searched the abandoned vehicle, they recovered several sacks of a green substance suspected to be cannabis sativa (bhang) weighing 112.8 kg, with an estimated street value of KSh3,384,000.
“After toiling and moiling for days, the search for the suspects bore fruit yesterday (Monday, July 22) when detectives, acting on a tip-off, managed to smoke out the main suspect, Samuel Omondi Audi 36, from his hideout in Kibera, Nairobi,” the report adds.
The suspect was arraigned as search for his accomplices continue.
