Mombasa: Suspected cocaine peddlers nabbed with cargo worth KSh495K

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, two women were arrested in Kisauni, Utange area, Mombasa County, for allegedly peddling cocaine.

In a statement by Directorate of Criminals Investigations (DCI), the two suspects, Amina Musa Chirunga and Saumu Ali Khamis, were found in possession of sachets of cocaine worth an estimated street value of KSh495,000.

The arrest was made by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit acting on a tip-off. Upon reaching the suspects’ house they conducted a search, leading to the discovery of the cocaine, commonly known as “nose candy.”

The suspects are set to appear in court on Monday, May 27, to face charges related to drug trafficking.

The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the menace of drug abuse and its associated criminal activities in the coastal region.

This comes even as Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir issued an executive order banning the sale, supply and consumption of khat, popularly known as muguka, in the county.

“I have signed an executive order to ban the entry of muguka into Mombasa and to ban the sale and consumption of muguka into Mombasa.” the county boss added.

The authorities remain committed to maintaining a safe and drug-free environment for the community.
