Kenya’s contingent to the 23rd edition of The Africa Senior Athletics Championships arrived safely in Douala, Cameroon ahead of the continental event that is set to start on Friday June 21.
Athletics Kenya flagged off the athletes who will represent the country at the African Senior Championships in Douala on Wednesday.
Consisting of 59 athletes, the Kenyan team will field two participants in each event during the 23rd edition of the championships.
The championship presents a significant opportunity for many athletes to achieve qualifying marks for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Among the standout athletes is three-time national 100m champion Mark Otieno, who, alongside Meshack Babu, aims to meet the Olympic qualifying standard of 10 seconds. Both athletes posted impressive times at the recent Athletics Kenya Olympic trials, with Otieno clocking 10.12 seconds and Babu 10.20 seconds.
Others eyeing the opportunity include Boniface Mweresa (400m), Mike Mokamba (200m), and Rukia Nusra (100m hurdles).
