Police have launched investigations after discovering body parts of a 17-year-old girl, who was reported missing 7 days ago in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.
Body parts of 17-year-old Mercy Akinyi were discovered after going missing for seven days in Ratanga market, Kwabwai ward in Ndhiwa.
Akinyi was reported missing on Sunday May 12, after she had attended a local sporting tournament.
Her head was found first then there after her decomposing body was discovered by the residents of Ongenyore village on Saturday May 19.
According to Central Kwabwai Location Chief George Olango, he received information that a decaying human head had been discovered, with signs of vultures feeding on it.
“We later on Saturday discovered the body of the girl. The body was also decomposing as well,” Olang’o said.
The circumstances surrounding Akinyi’s death are yet to be established but the police in Homa Bay County, led by Commander Samson Kinne, have initiated an investigation into the murder.
Local authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
“We’re going on with investigations into the matter to ensure justice is provided to the family. Suspects must be brought to book and we ask residents for more information on the whereabouts of the perpetrators,” Kinne said.
The victim’s remains were removed to Manyatta mortuary where a postmortem examination will be conducted.
