Tennis legend Venus Williams hints at a comeback

Venus Williams isn’t ready to close the book on her legendary career just yet.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who attended the 2025 Miami Open as a spectator, hinted that she might step back onto the court as a competitor.

“Watching the competition is actually pretty motivating,” Venus shared in an April 1 video recap of her time at the tournament.

“I loved this part of my life. People keep asking me, ‘Are you playing?’ I say, ‘No.’ Then they ask, ‘When are you playing?’”

At 44, she’s taking a different approach to her career without a rigid schedule for the first time.

“As an athlete, there was always a plan what tournaments to play, how to prepare.

Now, I just love the game. I play every day. And if I feel ready, I’ll play.”

Her time in Miami wasn’t just about watching.

Venus stepped in as a hitting partner for fellow tennis star Ons Jabeur, keeping her own skills sharp in the process.

“I may not be in the draw, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help someone else. And let’s be honest—I’m keeping my own game ready, just in case.”

While Serena Williams officially retired in 2022, Venus never made an announcement though many assumed she had.

In October 2024, she set the record straight.

“Serena ruined it for me! As soon as she retired, everyone thought I did too,” she joked.

As for the day she finally decides to step away? Venus is certain about how she’ll feel.

“I always thought I’d cry when I retired.

But now, I know I won’t. I’ve given everything to this sport. More than anything, I’ll just be grateful.”

For now, tennis fans will have to wait and see because Venus Williams isn’t ruling anything out.
