The 2025 Magical Kenya Open receives a KSH 60M financial boost

The Principal Secretary for Sports, Eng. Peter K. Tum, today unveiled Absa Bank Kenya’s KSh 60 million sponsorship for the 2025 Magical Kenya Open (MKO), reaffirming the bank’s 14-year commitment to the growth of Kenyan golf.

The prestigious DP World Tour event is set to take place from February 20–23, 2025, at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships in Sports

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, PS Tum emphasized the critical role of collaboration in advancing sports.

“Every great sporting success is built on partnerships. Absa’s continued support for the 56th Magical Kenya Open strengthens golf’s growth in Kenya,” he noted.

He highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in sports infrastructure, talent development, and Kenya’s global sporting footprint.

“With over 400 million viewers in 2024 across 70+ countries, the Magical Kenya Open is more than just a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative it is a strategic platform for brand visibility and market expansion,” he added.

“Accountability in sponsorship management and sports investments must translate into tangible growth.”

Absa Bank Kenya PLC CEO, Abdi Mohamed, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to supporting Kenyan sports and economic growth through golf.
