The viral ‘Anguka Nayo’ challenge has now taken the entertainment world by storm, with US-based Kenyan model and entrepreneur Rachel Mbuki introducing the catchy slogan and dance to some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Mbuki, a former Miss Universe contestant who runs the entertainment platform Xtra Access, led a star-studded parade of celebrities on the NBC Sumner Press Tour red carpet, all eager to show their support and join the ‘Anguka Nayo’ ‘movement’.
Renowned names like Reba McEntire, Kelli Williams, Bellisa Escobedo, Shanola Hampton, Khayun Kim, Nyambi Nyambi, Wendi McLendon, Jessy Schram, Mellisa Peterman, Reid Scott, and LaRoyce Hawkings enthusiastically danced and chanted the popular phrase, extending their love and solidarity to Kenya.
Actress Wendi McLendon captured the sentiment perfectly, declaring, “Kenya, my heart is with you. Your generation is gonna save us from ourselves. You guys and this generation, you’re gonna be the ones to keep the planet spinning. Anguka Nayo!”
The ‘Anguka Nayo’ challenge has become the rallying cry for protesters in Kenya, who have adopted the Arbantone hit as the soundtrack to their ongoing anti-government demonstrations.
Kenyan influencer Shiksha Aurora also joined the global phenomenon, featuring renowned journalist, American TV meteorologist Nick Kosir in the streets of New York.
In an Instagram post, Mbuki expressed her gratitude for the Hollywood stars’ support, writing; “Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars wanted to let Kenyans know that they have you in their thoughts and they are also on the #angukanayo train with our brave Gen Z. Therefore, as you continue the good fight, just know you are Loved from all over the world and everyone is rooting for you.”
