The International Football Association Board has revealed its intention to introduce a new rule in professional football matches that will see referees hand out a blue card to players for dissent and physical fouls.
These offences will get a player 10 minutes in the sin bin and if a player gets two blue cards he/she will be sent off for the rest of the match, as would a red or yellow cards.
The football law makers had begun trails of the blue card in England and Wales junior league in November and agreed to introduce it to the senior level however the board will give its go-ahead during their annual meeting slated in March.
However football fans and major stakeholder have registered their disapproval for the new rule that is set for trial they say that the decision will kill the beautiful game and create the most boring football matches.
It’ll add further irritation to fans and some managers who are already annoyed by the the governing body’s struggles and use of the Video Assistant Referee VAR.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, Everton’s Sean Dyche, and Crystal Palace’s Roy Hodgson are among the Premier League managers to have previously voiced their opposition to ‘blue cards’.
