Peter Anthony Morgan ‘Peetah Morgan’ the lead vocalist of the renowned Reggae ensemble Morgan Heritage, has passed away at the age of 46, as announced by his family.

In their statement, the family disclosed that Peter, affectionately known as Peetah, departed on Sunday, without specifying the cause of his demise.

Describing him as a cherished husband, father, son, and brother, the family requested ongoing prayers and urged respect for their privacy during this period of mourning.

“Our family thanks you in advance for your overwhelming love and support, and we ask your continued prayers as we go through this process. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of healing.

Born on July 11th, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York, Peter was raised in Jamaica after his family’s relocation.

He was the offspring of the iconic Jamaican reggae vocalist Denroy Morgan, who succumbed to Cancer in March 2022 after a prolonged struggle. Peter was one of Denroy’s 30 children.

In 1994, Peter and seven of his siblings formed Morgan Heritage, a band that achieved acclaim, winning three Grammy Awards.

Notable for hits such as “Don’t Haffi Dread To Be Rasta,” “Down By The River,” and “She’s Still Loving Me,” Peter left an indelible mark on the reggae scene.

The Morgan Heritage Album

With Peter’s passing, the music world mourns the loss of a talented artist whose contributions will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

On April 21, 2023, Morgan Heritage, the Grammy award-winning reggae band, unveiled their latest album titled ‘The Homeland.’

Featuring collaborations from artists across East Africa and beyond, ‘The Homeland’ album showcases a diverse array of talents.

Notable contributors include R&B sensation Otile Brown from East Africa and Uganda’s own Eddy Kenzo.

The album boasts a star-studded lineup with appearances from renowned artists such as Shaggy, Beenie Man, Popcaan, Shatta Wale, Ice Queen Cleo, Youssou N’Dour, Mádé Kuti, Alpha Blondy, Busy Signal, Capleton, and many others.

Significantly, this release marked Morgan Heritage’s first album following the passing of Denroy Morgan in 2022.

It symbolizes a new chapter for the group, as they embrace a broader global audience, extending their musical influence from the Caribbean to the African continent and beyond.

‘The Homeland’ album represents a journey of renewal for the Morgan brothers, rooted in a musical legacy that spans generations and promises to endure into the future.

Peetah Morgan Solo Career

Peetah Morgan’s solo career saw the release of songs such as Better World (2023), My Makeda (2012), Heart Like Lion with Jah Sun (2012), Unfair with Busy Signal (2010), and Bye Bye (2009).

Little is known about his family life because he was a private man but in 2016, his Baby Mama, Pashon Minnot came out guns blazing after they won a Grammy Award, claiming that he is a dead beat father to their two daughters, Destiny and Journey.
