‘This evil scheme is futile attempt to soil my name’ – DP Gachagua attacks President Ruto

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned what he describes as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and destabilize his office.

In a public statement shared on social media platform X, Gachagua expressed concern over politically motivated efforts to link him to the violent anti-government protests that took place in June and July 2024.

He emphasized that Kenyans are aware of the real issues facing the country and dismissed any claims of his involvement in the protests.

“President William Ruto and I, on assuming office, gave an undertaking to the people of Kenya that never again shall the criminal justice system be called upon to help in the management of politics,” he noted in a statement

“I am embarrassed that we are back to where we were. Harassment of my office staff and Members of Parliament perceived to be close to me has been going on for the last two months,” he added.

Gachagua further accused unnamed individuals of plotting to implicate him as part of a larger strategy aimed at building a case for his possible impeachment.

Gachagua expressed disappointment over allegations that charges might be fabricated against three of his staff members, as well as MPs James Gakuya and Benjamin Gathiru MejjaDonk, calling the actions a “futile attempt” to damage his reputation.

He criticized the misuse of the criminal justice system for political reasons, stating that this practice is a throwback to Kenya’s political past.

Gachagua broke his silence after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recommended charges against five individuals, including his three staff members and two Members of Parliament, for their alleged involvement in the anti-government protests.

According to the DCI report, Intelligence reports suggest that the two MPs, who are close allies of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua held several meetings at a well-known hotel in Nairobi to plan the demonstrations to destabilize the country.
