Thousands of Kenyans on Tuesday, December 12 started entering Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi at 6.00am for the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
According to Interior Ministry principal secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo, 30,000 Kenyans are expected to attend the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens.
The national event will be graced by President William Ruto, who will lead the nation in celebrating 60 years of independence.
Several dignitaries including other invited presidents will attend the event at the Uhuru Gardens to celebrate 60 years of Kenya’s independence.

Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde is among invited leaders who will be present during the national event. The Ethiopian president landed in Nairobi on Monday, December 11.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei had earlier said that Lang’ata Road will be busy and therefore urged motorists to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Bungei added that security has been beefed up at the Uhuru Gardens and areas along Langata Road in Nairobi.

The Nairobi Regional Police Commander also disclosed that Wilson Airport will be closed briefly for 6 hours at the time when the Jamhuri Day celebrations will be going on.
Similar Jamhuri Day celebrations will take place in all counties in the country.
