A village in Kapsogut location, Kericho County, has been plunged into mourning after three children — aged between 10 and 4 years — were burnt beyond recognition on Friday, December 6 evening.
The three children, including a 10-year-old with disability, were killed after fire engulfed their house in Moburo village.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased had been locked inside the house — made of timber and iron sheets — by one of their siblings who left to play with a neighbour’s kids.
The parents of the children were not at the house at the time of the incident, with neighbours alleging that they had left a mobile phone charging, and it might have exploded and started the fire.
Attempts to put out the fire proved to be futile, as the fire was accelerated by the dry timbers used to construct the house, and the windy weather in the area.
Officers from Cheborgei Police Station have since removed the bodies of the victims to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.
