Three people lost their lives on Friday following a tragic accident along the Sibanga- Moi’s Bridge Road, Trans Nzoia County.

The accident reportedly involved a matatu belonging to Kangaroo Sacco- which plies the Nairobi-Eldoret-Kitale- and a boda boda.

A head-on collision between the two led to fatalities and others injured.

Another accident leaves 47 injured

This comes hours after another accident along the Londiani – Muhoroni Road involving a 62-seater bus.

“Forty-seven injured individuals have been swiftly taken to Fort Tenan Sub County Hospital by the County Government,” Kenya Red Cross reported.

Luckily, seven passengers escaped unharmed from the shocking incident.

“The scene has been cleared by the Kenya Police,” Kenya Red Cross added.

Last week, a similar occurrence was reported in Londiani, Kericho County where a 66-seater bus was involved in an accident.

No fatalities were reported, although 40 causalities were evacuated to Fort Tenarn Hospital; 4 referred to Kericho County Referral Hospital by County ambulance and well wishers.

CS Murkomen’s plan to curb road accidents

This comes as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Transport and Roads Kipchumba Murkomen launched the Usalama Barabarani Festive Season Campaign.

Speaking on Thursday, December 21, CS Murkomen stated that the Kenya Highway Code and Learner Drivers’ Handbook will be distributed freely to promote responsible road use especially this festive season.

“Over the last year, our collective effort has reduced road traffic fatalities. From January 1 to December 7, 2023, we witnessed a commendable 8.11 per cent decrease in lives lost due to road traffic injuries compared with the same period last year,” he added.

Murkomen went on to say that road fatalities had reduced from 4,352 to 3,999.

However, the number of injured persons had gone up which was a cause for concern.

“About 90 per cent of accidents result from unsafe road user behaviour.”
