Police in Nandi County have arrested seven teachers, including a supervisor and an invigilator, for alleged involvement in KCSE examination malpractices.
The incidents, confirmed by Nandi Criminal Investigations Officer Peter Ochieng, occurred at three schools: Kamimei Secondary School in Nandi South, and Koitalel Samoei Boys and Lelwark Boys both in Nandi East.
The suspects are accused of photographing examination materials using mobile phones and sharing them on social media platforms. Authorities seized the phones allegedly linking them directly to the malpractice.
“We have taken over their phones as these gadgets were used to photograph and circulate the examination materials on social media. Such actions destroy the future of our young Kenyans,” Ochieng stated.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of national examinations, warning that anyone involved in exam fraud would face the full force of the law.
“We act immediately to uphold the integrity of exams. Those engaging in these vices should know their days are numbered,” he added.
Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba also commented on the arrests, emphasizing that students have largely avoided involvement in cheating. He praised the multi-agency approach to exam security, which has intercepted many potential cheating attempts.
“The government is committed to ensuring the integrity of exams, and those caught engaging in malpractice will face legal consequences,” Ogamba said.
The arrested teachers were released on bond as investigations continue. Authorities assured Kenyans of their resolve to protect the education system and secure the future of students.
