The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three suspects believed to be behind a series of robberies and muggings in the coastal town of Mombasa.
The suspects, Shaban Munga Ali, 26, Sande Kalama Kitsao, 24, and Shebani Charo Kalume, 34, are said to be linked to a notorious criminal group known as the “Panga Gang,” according to the DCI.
Their arrests followed a lengthy intelligence-led operation.
“The gang is armed with dangerous weapons such as daggers and machetes, operating fearlessly, primarily in the Kiembeni and Kadzandani areas,
Where they carry out robberies at businesses and muggings of unsuspecting pedestrians,” the DCI stated.
“Munga and Kalama, the first two suspects, were arrested at the Mwatamba 2 stage in Kiembeni.
While Kalume was apprehended in Kadzandani with a knife and two face masks in his possession,” they added.
The three suspects are set to appear in court, as the crackdown continues.
