After an intensive manhunt, detectives from Gucha South have apprehended three suspects linked to the brutal murder of a 22-year-old security guard at Engako Bar, located in Nyachenge trading center, Kisii County.

On the night of November 26, 2024, the victim was ambushed by the gang and assaulted with crude weapons while on duty. The attackers inflicted fatal injuries, leaving him to bleed out, before breaking into the bar and stealing alcohol worth Ksh 26,000.

The horrifying incident was reported by the Tabaka area chief, prompting the deployment of a specialized team of detectives who launched a swift investigation.

Suspects Arrested

Festus Odhiambo alias Arum aged 31, was arrested in Migori County, where detectives recovered blood-stained clothing, believed to link him to the crime scene.

Thomas Momanyi Omenta also aged 31, was apprehended in Kisii Township, following leads from Odhiambo’s interrogation.

Meanwhile the other suspect 26 year-old Grace Kerubo Oseko was arrested alongside Omenta. Detectives recovered a stolen mobile phone, linking her to the robbery and murder.

Identification and Investigations

The suspects had allegedly been at the bar earlier on the fateful evening. During an identification parade, patrons at the bar positively identified them as having been present.

The trio is currently held at Nyamarambe Police Station under a miscellaneous application to allow detectives to conduct further investigations.

The Sub-County Head of Investigations has confirmed that the suspects will be processed and charged once investigations are complete. Evidence, including recovered items and witness statements, is being compiled to strengthen the case against the trio.
