Thrilling action at the 2025 Shell Autocross Championship: Thethy and Duncan Shine

The latest round of the 2025 Shell Autocross Championship delivered spectacular racing action across multiple classes, with Rajveer Thethy and motorsport legend Ian Duncan among the standout performers at the challenging Autocross Plus circuit. Four crews were feted in a colourful ceremony staged at the Twisty 2 track in Kiambu Counties.

Vivo Energy Kenya’s Commercial Manager, Mark Senteu, presided over the awards ceremony, acknowledging the top drivers who showcased exceptional skill and precision on the challenging 5.9 km track at an event organized by + 254 Motorsport Club.

“I laud all the crews for their superb efforts in the outing; the level of competition we witnessed today exemplifies the exceptional talent within Kenya’s motorsport community,” said Mark Senteu during the awards ceremony. “At Vivo Energy Kenya, we’re proud to support the Shell Autocross championship to grow from one strength to another as the crews push the boundaries of performance and inspire the next generation of drivers.

The event, held at Twisty2 Track, attracted hundreds of enthusiastic spectators who witnessed the country’s top drivers navigate the technically demanding course in the autocross and auto cross-plus competition.

Competitors faced dual challenges during the event. Races were held on both the technical 1.9km Autocross course and the gruelling 5.9km Autocross Plus circuit, testing drivers’ skills across varying terrain and conditions.

Rajveer Thethy dominated the 4WD Turbo class on the longer Autocross Plus circuit, crossing the finish line ahead of Harpreet Singh and Amaan Ganatra in a closely contested battle. Thethy’s commanding performance demonstrated why he remains one of Kenya’s premier autocross talents, with his precision driving drawing admiration from spectators lining the circuit.

Veteran motorsport champion Ian Duncan continued his impressive form, clocking 0:20:16.400 to secure victory in the 2WD-T Buggy class. Duncan’s extensive experience was evident as he navigated the demanding course with characteristic smoothness and technical precision.

In the 4WD Non-Turbo category, Abid Ganatra claimed top honours ahead of Jose Sardinha in what developed into one of the day’s most competitive classes. Ganatra’s victory came after consistent performance throughout all sectors of the challenging course.

The 2WD Non-Turbo Senior category provided plenty of excitement, with Altaf Ganatra finishing an impressive 30 seconds ahead of second-placed Jose Sardinha, while Tariq Rashid completed the podium with a time of 0:22:16.718.

On the shorter 1.9km Autocross circuit, drivers delivered equally impressive performances. Rajveer Thethy continued his winning ways by posting the best time in the 2WD Turbo class, with Amaan Ganatra and Harpreet Singh Bhogal completing the podium positions.

Fortunes shifted in the 2WD-T Buggy class on the shorter course. Harpreet Singh Bhogal claimed victory with a time of 02:07.828, relegating Ian Duncan to second place. Abdul Rashid rounded out the podium in third.

In the Open class, Neel Gohil asserted his dominance ahead of Clement Marini and Daniel Mwangi, while crowd favorite Shabaz Anwar thrilled spectators by claiming victory in the always-popular Quad Bike category.

The 4WD Non-Turbo class delivered one of the day’s most intense battles, with Jose Sardinha and Abdi Ganatra locked in what commentators described as a “herculean” contest for supremacy.

In the 2WD Non-Turbo class, Jose Sardinha emerged victorious, followed by Altaf Ganatra and Tariq Rashid, who completed a highly competitive podium.

The championship’s commitment to developing young talent was evident in the junior categories. Rising star Cheche Ababu secured a commanding win in the Cadet Junior Buggy class, finishing ahead of Eann Bengi and Karamveer Rooprai. Meanwhile, Sean Njumbi and Allan Bengi were crowned champions in the Alpha and Beta Junior classes, respectively, showcasing the promising future of Kenyan motorsport.

+254 Motorsport Chairman Sushil Gohil lauded Shell for their solid motorsport sponsorship.

“We are witnessing a new era in Motorsport in Kenya. Vivo Energy Kenya has been a strong supporter of the sport, and their investment has rekindled the motorsport dream,” said Sushil.

The championship will continue with subsequent five rounds scheduled throughout 2025, culminating in the crowning of category champions at the season finale.
