A total of 17,949 candidates at 419 examination centers on Monday October 28, 2024 started their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) across Turkana County.
In Turkana Central Sub County, Deputy County Commissioner Thomas Siele supervised the opening of the examination container at his office.
At the same time, Siele warned examination officials against perpetrating examination malpractice intended to help candidates cheat.
“We opened the container at my office at exactly 6 am and handed the examination papers to all center managers.
“We have four other containers at strategic locations at Kalokol, Eliye, Nakurio and Kerio as part of measures to address logistical challenges due to vastness,” Siele said.
He said that examination centers along Lake Turkana are faced with challenges of rising waters that even submerged some schools forcing authorities to relocate candidates to safer places.
“Though areas around Eliye were affected by heavy rains, examination officials are yet to report any challenges,” he added.
Sub County Director of Education Wilson Serem revealed that the Sub County has 3,902 candidates sitting for the examinations at 85 centers in public schools, 21 centers for private schools and 45 hosted centers.
Meanwhile, Turkana County Commissioner Julius Kavita said they deployed adequate security personnel to ensure examination centers in areas prone to banditry are secured and all candidates and examination officials are safe.
“We have even recalled all security officers who were on leave to come and help us administer this important national exercise,” Kavita said.
