TikToker Nyako helps raise KSh420k for former TV star Kimani Mbugua

Rising TikToker Nyako has reportedly raised KSh420,000 for former TV star Kimani Mbugua through an online fundraiser.

Nyako went live on her TikTok platform where she mobilised her fans to raise KSh200,000 for Kimani Mbugua.

“Niseme how much ama nionyeshe (Should I say the amount or I just show you?…” Nyako teased Mbugua ahead of the big reveal.

TikTok fans raise KSh420k

After scribbling something on what appeared to be a notebook, TikToker Nyako told Mbugua she had so far raised KSh420,000.

An elated Mbugua, who was also live on TikTok, responded saying, “Thank you so much. I never would have imagined this could happen.”

This comes days after Mbugua’s video appealing for help went viral on social media.

In the video, the former TV star stated that he was homeless and was now looking for a sustainable source of income to avoid being a burden to his guardians.

“In 2020 I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder and my life fell apart. I have lost so many friends in the journey. People got tired of me. I am in a position where most people are not willing to help and I understand,” he explained.

Kimani Mbugua ‘free’ from drug abuse

He went on to say that he was discharged from a mental health institution the previous week, and was now drug free.

“I don’t want to go back to drugs. Two months I haven’t used any weed, I haven’t used any cigarettes,” Mbugua claimed.

To avoid regression, the former TV star showcased two brown envelopes which he said contained his business plan and company structure to present to any willing investor.

“All I need is a business partner who is serious and bring in money,” Mbugua added.

KSh1.7 million debt

He stated that he badly needed a job as he was in serious debt.

“I am in so much debt. I owe KSh1.7 million because somebody very close to me sold my car and I was unable to repay that loan because I haven’t had a job in the last two years.”

The 27-year-old journalist hinted that his new project would revolve around content creation. Consequently, a smartphone and internet connection would come in handy.
