Tim Wanyonyi accussed of misappropriating KSh 32M NG-CDF funds

A petition has been filed before the Milimani Law Courts to compel the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to launch probe on Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi.

The petitioner, Francis Awino, accuses the MP of misappropriating KSh 32M

KSh 17 million in one occurrence and KSh 15.4 million in another.

According to court papers, Mr Owino alleges that the money was meant for the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

The money was meant for Westlands Constituency in his second term for the financial year that ended in 2020.

Lack of records

“In respect of bursaries to secondary schools and tertiary institutions.”

“There was no documentary evidence including applications and the approval process,” read the paper in part.

“There was no acknowledgement by schools, institutions and any list of beneficiaries either.”

KSh 5.5 M dispatched for Hospital Hill

According to Mr Owino, the only records are of KSh 5.5 million disbursed to Hospital Hill Primary School.”

“The money was disbursed to aid in the construction of a library.”

“Funds were deposited at the school’s Westlands main bank account from where payments were made.”

Mr Owino cited the project implementation status report as his source.

“A review of the project implementation status report presented for audit revealed that Hospital Hill Primary School had received Ksh.5.5 million for the construction of a library with a capacity of 200 pupils.”

A donor however volunteered to sponsor the project to which he did and it was finalized. There is no record whatsoever on the KSh 5.5 million that had been disbursed.

Tim on fighting for the revival of NG-CDF

Tim Wanyonyi is one of the MPs who vowed to fight for the revival of the NG-CDF before the 2022 general elections once he was re-elected in Westlands.

“CDF that the Supreme Court said is unconstitutional is the initial one.

“This one of the national government which was aligned with national function is still in existence.”

“I know it also has a case in court, that is something the committee will have to look at when the house convenes,” he had said in a 2022 interview.

Tim is serving his third term as Westlands MP.

He had however been fronted as a gubernatorial aspirant by the Orange Democratic Party, a decision that was later rescinded.
