Timo Werner: I have joined Tottenham to win trophies

SportsWORLD

Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner has announced that he has joined their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, albeit on loan from RB Leipzig, to win titles.

In his first interview after joining the club, Werner expressed his intention to end Spurs’ trophy drought. The last silverware for Spurs was in 2008 when they defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley to win the League Cup.

“When I joined my old club, I said I wanted to win titles, and in the end, we won the Champions League. So I think it shouldn’t be too bad to say that I’ve come here to also win titles and to win something,” he said.

At 27, Werner is back in the Premier League after spending two seasons at Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, where he scored 10 goals in 56 top-flight appearances.

His time at Stamford Bridge was seen as unsuccessful, leading him to return to the Bundesliga with Leipzig, the club that initially sold him to Chelsea for £45 million.

Struggling to secure a regular starting spot this season, Werner aims to earn a place in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad through consistent performances in Ange Postecoglou’s team.

A club with an empty trophy room – Mourinho banters Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has criticized Tottenham’s lack of recent success during a conversation with John Obi-Mikel on his podcast.

He brought up his abrupt dismissal by Tottenham just two days before the 2021 Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

“The most ridiculous one was a club that has an empty trophy room sacks me two days before a final. Tottenham have never won for 50 years. I don’t remember when,” Mourinho said on The Obi One Podcast.
