Michael Jackson‘s brother and original member of The Legendary Jackson 5, Tito Jackson has passed away at the age of 70.
The third of nine Jackson siblings, Tito Jackson was born on October 15, 1953, as Toriano Adaryll Jackson.
On September 15, 2024, his death was officially announced.
According to preliminary accounts, he had a heart attack while traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma.
In a public statement, his sons Taryll, Taj, and TJ Jackson expressed their sorrow, stating they were “shocked, saddened, and heartbroken” by their father’s passing and described him as a remarkable and compassionate guy.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father Rock &Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson us no longer with us.
We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.
Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the Kegendary Jackson 5, some may know him as “Coach Tito” or some know him as “Poppa T”.
Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously, it will forever be “Tito Time” for us

Tito was a vital component of the group. In 1997, the band received their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Tito played guitar in the background at first, but he eventually went solo and put out two albums: Under Your Spell in 2021 and Tito Time in 2016.
He was instrumental in The Jackson 5’s popularity. Well-known for his guitar prowess, Tito’s warm tone laid the groundwork for the band’s successful songs.
Tito had been a member of The Jacksons, playing alongside his brothers Jackie and Marlon in recent years.
The Jackson 5—which consisted of the brothers Michael, Marlon, Jermaine, and Jackie—rose to prominence in the 1970s with hits including “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 due to their influence on pop music. Tito’s musical career went beyond his family business.
He discovered his own style in the 2000s, playing funk and blues tunes that were inspired by his abiding passion for the blues.
With the release of his solo album Tito Time (2016), he entered a more intimate phase of his career and demonstrated his singing prowess.
In 2021, he released Under Your Spell as a follow-up, collaborating with musical greats like George Benson and Stevie Wonder.
Tito has always maintained a healthy balance between his professional life and his strong familial ties.
Even after Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, among other tragedies the Jackson family has experienced, Tito continued to be a major figure on and off the stage.
During a trip to Munich, he posted his farewell message to the public, honoring his late brother Michael and their shared legacy.
Only a few days before his death, Tito was still performing with his surviving brothers as part of The Jacksons, touring all over the world.
His next scheduled performances were for later in 2024; he was last spotted performing on stage in Surrey, England.
His passing represents yet another significant loss for the Jackson family and the music industry as a whole.
