Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards has left its fans disheartened due to a disappointing start to the season, prompting calls for the dismissal of head coach Tom Juma.
Despite the widespread calls from the fans for Juma’s sacking, AFC Leopards’ leadership emphatically expressed their confidence in Tom Juma as the right person to lead the team.
In a statement released on September 20, 2023, the club stated, “The management of the Club is pleased to announce its unwavering confidence in the leadership of the technical bench, headed by Mr. Tom Juma.”

Tom Juma assumed the role of head coach in July 2023 after the departure of Belgian tactician Patrick Aussems, transitioning from his previous position as team manager.
He was joined by former Wazito FC head coach Fred Ambani as his assistant.
Despite their legendary status within the club, positive results have been elusive, which has understandably frustrated the fans.
However, AFC Leopards’ leadership has called upon the fans to rally behind both Juma and Ambani.
“We call upon our dedicated fans to remain optimistic and continue supporting the team passionately. Your unwavering support is the driving force behind our success, and together, we can achieve greatness and make this season one to remember.”
Despite having played three matches in the new season, AFC Leopards has not managed to secure a victory or even score a single goal.
The 1998 champions drew their season opener 0-0 against FC Talanta, suffered a 1-0 loss to KCB shortly after, and most recently played to a 0-0 draw at home against Muhoroni Youth on September 16, 2023.
As a result, they currently occupy the 12th position on the Premier League standings.
Their upcoming fixtures include matches against Police FC and FC Shabana before hosting the high-stakes Mashemeji Derby on October 6, 2023.
