Trans Nzoia police are investigating an incident in which a 27-year-old man was stoned to death over an alleged cash debt.
The body of David Waswa was found by the police at the scene following a report from a village elder.
According to the police, Waswa was stoned to death on the night of March 21 over claims of an unspecified debt.
Police added that they are pursuing two individuals as part of the murder investigation, with whom the deceased had a confrontation.
According to the locals who witnessed the incident, they were informed by the mob that Waswa was a thief but later learned it was a dispute over money.
Police collected stones and clothing as evidence from the scene and emphasized that mob lynching is a criminal offense.
They urged individuals arrested by mobs to be handed over to authorities for legal processing.
Elsewhere, police are investigating the murder of an unidentified man whose lifeless body was found in a sugarcane plantation in Koitaburot Location, Kericho County.
The deceased body had sustained a deep cut above the left ear, at the back below the shoulder, and on the toes of the left foot.
The police moved his body to Sigowet Sub County General Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending autopsy and identification.
