Trevor Noah:’Fame feels like being owned’

Trevor Noah, The Daily Show’s renowned stand-up comedian and former host, has opened up about the downside of fame, revealing why he truly “hates” it.

Despite his incredible success, Trevor shared that fame brings with it an uncomfortable sense of ownership that affects his personal life in ways he never anticipated.

In an interview with The Diary of a CEO, Trevor candidly expressed his mixed feelings about the life he leads. “I love what I’ve achieved,” he said, “but I hate the lack of privacy that comes with fame.”

According to him, fame makes people feel like they have a claim over him, robbing him of the peace that comes with living life anonymously.

“People will never appreciate the beauty and tranquillity that comes with anonymity,” he added. “When you meet a stranger, you can tell them your story, and they’ll listen without judgment.”

One of the biggest impacts of his fame has been on his friendships. Trevor explained how some of his friends avoid going out with him because they don’t want the attention.

“I have friends who say, ‘I just want to have a meal and not be disturbed,’ or ‘I want to wear whatever I want without being photographed next to you and looking terrible.’

I understand where they’re coming from,” he admitted.

Trevor also highlighted how the world often forgets that celebrities, just like anyone else, have difficult days when they want to be left alone.

“The downside of fame is that you are owned by the world,” he said.

“No matter how bad your day is, people expect you to engage with them. I understand their perspective, but it’s hard.”

For Trevor, the emotional toll of fame can lead to feelings of isolation. “Most people in the public eye live an isolated and, many times, a very depressed life,” he added,

Reflecting on the unseen struggles that accompany success.

Despite all his accomplishments, Trevor’s heartfelt words remind us that fame comes at a cost—and that the world behind the spotlight is not always as glamorous as it seems.
