Tusker FC and Harambee Stars forward Ryan Ogam has been named the LG / Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality of the Month (SPOM) for December 2024.
The 20-year-old striker, who is in his debut season in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL), has taken the league by storm, leading the goal-scoring charts with 13 goals. His incredible form saw him net six times in December, helping Tusker FC climb to second place in the 18-team league.
A Rising Star in Kenyan Football
Speaking during the award ceremony, LG’s Managing Director for East Africa, Dongwon Lee, praised Ogam’s outstanding performances.
“Ogam is just at the beginning of his career, but he is already making a great impact. This is the kind of talent that the SPOM was created for, and we are proud to recognize this young player today,” said Lee.
Ogam edged out a strong list of nominees, including:
Beatrice Chebet – The Olympic 5,000m and 10,000m champion, who broke the World 5km record on December 31, 2024, in Barcelona.
Rose Museo – Makueni Women Representative, who won the East Africa Inter-Parliamentary Games PWD darts title in Mombasa.
Garang Ding & Albert Adera – The Nairobi City Thunders duo, who helped their team become the first Kenyan side to qualify for the Africa Basketball League (BAL).
Robert Mcligeyo – Winner of the 2024 Kenya National Chess Championship (KNCC), finishing unbeaten.
Kenya’s National Golf Team Captain – Winner of the final leg of the Kenya Golf Championship (KGC) in Nyali, Mombasa.
Bernard Koyoko – Maiden Kenya Scrabble National Champion.
Sebastian Sewe Kimaru – World Half Marathon champion, who won the Valencia Marathon on his 42km road race debut.
Wahome Mutahi – Winner of the East and Central Africa FIM Motocross Challenge at Vipingo Ridge, Mombasa.
A Future Star for Club & Country
Ogam’s meteoric rise in Kenyan football has positioned him as one of the brightest young talents in the league. His contributions have been instrumental in Tusker FC’s title charge, and he remains a key prospect for the Harambee Stars.
With this prestigious award under his belt, all eyes will be on Ogam to continue his scoring spree and lead Tusker FC in their quest for FKF PL glory.
