TV47’s Elizabeth Atieno Ochieng wins ‘Journalist of the Year’ award

TV47 Health Reporter Elizabeth Atieno Ochieng scooped the ‘Journalist of the Year’ award at the 2024 Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) following her exemplary work in the media industry.

Atieno bagged the award at a gala night held at the Edge Hotel, Nairobi, on Friday, May 3.

TV47’s Elizabeth Atieno was emotional when she received her ‘Journalist of the Year’ Award, as Attorney General Justin Muturi and Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo look on on Friday, May 3, 2024.

The gala also saw Atieno bag the Health and Medical Reporting Award (TV Category) for shining light on crucial healthcare issues facing Kenyans.

Her feature story — A Sweatless Survival — saw Elizabeth Atieno also bag the Health and Medical Reporting Award (TV Category).

Her story “A Sweatless Survival”, laid bare the tribulations of the limanyang community in Turkana County, who do not have the ability to sweat.

Attorney General Justin Muturi was the chief guest in the event that was also attended by Media Council of Kenya officials and Dagoretti South MP — who is the Chair Committee on Communication, Information Innovation — John Kiarie.

AJEA Awards

The Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) is Kenya’s prestigious journalism awards, given since 2012 for print, broadcast, and now digital journalism.
