Dangerous ways to school (Samburu Edition)

Education reporter Sharon Barang’a visits the remote village of Ntepes in Samburu County, and follows two siblings Elima and Letetekwa as they walk to Opiroi Primary School, about 10 kilometres away.

They leave at about 6:30am and arrive at school three hours later hungry and tired but thirsty for education. Along the way, the siblings traverse Kirisia forest. Its sparse canopy of thorn trees and patchy grasslands teems with danger: Leopards, hyenas, monkeys and elephants. There is also the occasional lion.
