A team from various security agencies conducted a raid on an Al-Shabaab makeshift camp in Digdiga, Fafi, Garissa County, resulting in the death of two suspected militants.
What was recovered during the raid
During the operation, the team recovered various items, including three AK-47 rifles with extra magazines, ammunition, grenades, radios, indoctrination materials, AAA batteries, an animal snare, and jerrycans.
In total, 120 bullets were seized.
The raid, carried out on Wednesday morning, was prompted by complaints about frequent harassment by militants.
The team tracked the militants into Digdiga Forest, ambushing them as they prepared game meat.
How many militants were killed?
While two militants were killed, others managed to escape with serious injuries.
This operation follows previous raids on August 5 targeting al-Shabaab positions in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa Counties.
Mandera and Wajir, intelligence-led operations uncovered hidden weapons, medical supplies, drugs, and water-filled jerricans.
In Garissa, security forces encountered five suspected militants in Adan Santur, while responding to local distress calls about camels being stolen.
The team recovered two camels as the militants fled to Somalia in a damaged white Toyota Probox.
Previously on Saturday, a six-year-old Kenyan boy was discovered in a forest in Somalia after being left there following a vehicle hijacking in Mandera East, Mandera County.
The child was reunited with his family the next day when locals found him wandering and crying for assistance in the vicinity.
Villagers located him about 20 kilometers inside Somalia and guided him back to the Kenyan border, where he was then handed over to the authorities.
