Two armed criminals in Kakamega gunned down by police officers

On Thursday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) fatally shot two members of an armed gang believed to have been terrorizing residents in Kakamega and surrounding counties.

“Following a tip-off from the public about their location, we tracked the suspects to a rental house in Matungu village,” the DCI said.

“After obtaining intelligence that led us to the hideout, a team including DCI’s Operation Action Team and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau surrounded the rental unit, ordering the suspects to come out and surrender.”

“The suspects ignored the surrender order and instead cocked a rifle inside the apartment, apparently preparing to fire at the officers, who heard the distinct sound. In response, the detectives swiftly opened fire.”

“The armed pair, determined to fight back, engaged in a gunbattle but were quickly subdued after the rifle was cocked inside the house.”

“From the suspects’ residence, who have yet to be identified, authorities recovered a rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition and a Bajaj motorcycle. Investigators believe the motorcycle was stolen from a police officer who was attacked by a machete-wielding gang on November 12 in Butere Township. The officer remains in a coma.”

“The recovered items have been secured, and the bodies have been taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and fingerprint identification,” the DCI concluded.
