Two children in Mukurwe-Ini were confirmed dead after drowning in Kaheho dam on Friday, 12, December 2023.
Mukurwe-Ini Deputy County Commissioner Mrs. Caroline Musuku raised her concerns saying the number of incidents happening around the dam is alarming.
Musuku has prohibited the residents of Mukurwe-Ini from going anywhere near the dam until the necessary safety measures are taken.

This was agreed upon by the Assistant Chief, village elders, and the residents of Mukurwe-Ini residents.
“Area hii sasa hatutaruhusu watu wakae huku. Assistants chiefs, village elders na wakazi wa huku wame agree kwa pamoja kuwa hakuna watoto kucheza huku,” Caroline Musuky said.
Mukurwe-Ini MP John Gaguchia wants the Disaster Management Committee to inspect not just Kaheho dam but also other dams that are a danger to the community.
“Wale Disaster Management Committee amabayo itakuja hapa tunataka pia watembele zile dams zingine ndio tueze kuangalia ni gani zinahitaji fencing in a way zisikuwe zinahangaisha wanainchi,” MP John Gaguchia.

The mother of one of the deceased children has expressed her frustration and pain at losing his son.
She is, however, grateful that the authorities are considering taking measures on how to curb more accidents.
“Nilipata ripoti nikiwa kazini na nikaambiwa maneno ya mtoto na ndio nilkuja nikapta ni hivyo,”
“Na mimi niko na furaha kuskia hii dam itaekwa fence na nitafurahia ju ni watu wengi wamepotelea kwa hii dam,” She said.
