Two people have died while 19 others seriously injured after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Taru, along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
Confirming the incident, Samburu Region Police Ccommander Lydia Mambo says the accident occured when the Mombasa-bound Mash Company bus collided head on with a Mercedes Benz trailer.
Preliminary investigations, police say, have indicated that the driver of the trailer failed to maintain to his lane, forcing the bus to veer off the road.
“20 other passengers, among them two juveniles who were seriously injured have been rushed to Samburu Sub County Hospital and the bodies preserved at Kinango Sub County Hospital Mortuary,” the National Police Service (NPS) says in a statement.
The Kenya Red Cross Society has since set up a tracing and psychosocial support services desk at the Samburu Sub-County Hospital in Kwale County, aiming to provide crucial assistance and comfort to those affected.
