Two people have tragically lost their lives after a personal car plunged into Thwake River along the Machakos-Kitui Road.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, as the vehicle, carrying five passengers, veered off the road and into the river.
Kithangaini Sub-location Assistant Chief, Stephen Mutua Ndambuki, confirmed the tragic accident. According to him, two passengers were confirmed dead at the scene, while three others survived. The two survivors who were critically injured were immediately rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.
However, a third survivor, who had managed to escape the wreckage unscathed, fled the scene while rescue operations were underway, leaving authorities puzzled about his whereabouts.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, with authorities urging residents and travelers to exercise caution along the route, especially during the rainy season. Further investigations are ongoing.
