Two form 2 girls arrested over a fire outbreak at school in Machakos

Police on Sunday September 1, 2024 arrested two form two girls at Nyayo Girls Secondary School in Kalama, Machakos County following a fire outbreak at the school.

The two girls were arrested shortly after the fire razed two dormitories at the school on Sunday night at around 8.30pm.

Police arrived at the school immediately after the tragic incident to investigate the cause of the fire.

The two girls were detained at Konza police station where they spent their night.

Despite the ongoing teachers strike, 324 out of 526 students were in school on Sunday during the incident.

According to the police, nothing was salvaged during the fire outbreaks that guttered the dormitories which hosted 146 students.

However, no student was injured during the incident since they were all in classrooms for their night preps.

Elsewhere in Makueni County, a dormitory was reportedly razed at Makindu Girls High School on the same Sunday night.

Police reported that the dormitory that accommodated 55 students was destroyed by fire following students’ unrest at the school.

No fatalities or injuries were reported during the tragic incident.
