Two form four girls give birth, another one dies shortly before start of KCSE exams

Two form four girls gave birth to healthy babies on Sunday November 3, 2024, a few hours to the start of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams  in Tigania West, Meru County.

At the same time, a KCSE candidate was confirmed dead on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tigania West.

The incidents were confirmed by Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma on Monday November 4, 2024.

Ouma explained that the two candidates who gave birth on Sunday, will be allowed to sit for the KCSE exams in hospital.

Speaking while overseeing the distribution of exam papers to schools on Monday, Ouma said that about 29148 candidates in 412 schools in Meru County were registered for this year’s KCSE exams.

Out of the 29148 candidates, 13907 are boys while 15241 are girls.

He added that 12 male prisoners will also sit for the national exams at prisons in the county as they continue to serve their jail terms.

In addition, about 151 adults will be sitting for the national exams in Meru County, according to the County Commissioner.

This year’s KCSE exams will be managed differently as compared to previous years as supervisors will be rotating from one school to another, in an attempt to minimize cheating.
